March 15, 2010 – New York
On the 15th of March of this year, at the Italian Institute of Culture of New York, before a highly attentive audience, Master Riccardo Muti remembered Renata Tebaldi with intense, heart-felt words. As in other occasions, Mastro Muti expressed his deepest disappointment at not having been able , due to the difference of generation, to have had Renata Tebaldi in the cast of the works he had produced, thus confirming his opinion of her as one of the greatest singers/musicians of the last century.
He also spoke of the friendship that had united them, and of the constancy with which Renata was present at the Scala , at the auditions of various performances he had directed.
Riccardo Muti then put emphasis on the versatility of the repertory of Renata Tebaldi that went from Mozart to Handel, from Giordano to Catalani, from Boito to Gounod, from Puccini to Rossini, from Verdi to Wagner, to the most significant Italian musicians of the realist period.
